Meeting with Academic Supervisor

Session Review

After presenting the first draft of voices for the landlord and shadow character. Isaiah Ferguson my academic mentor expressed that I need to find a voice actor preferably a grown man in his 30+ to voice the landlord or at least a person who could produce and keep the same constant tone of voice throughout each line of dialogue.

Furthermore, I by next week Tuesday I will have to step my production rate up and create new dialogue that better suits all three of my characters.

TOTN: Recording Session 3

Session Review

Tom Baxter and I went into the sound design studio in order to record the first half of my characters diolog scenes in my story "The Thorns of the Night" During this session of production, Thomas Baxter and I both initially role-played each of the characters lines in order to quickly gain an emotional sense for which particular character we could speak through.

I planned to watch videos and spinets from kindred the embraced and other sources in order to get into character wnd experiment with different voices. Furthermore,we tried out different voices and we agreed shadow should whisper to reflect his manipulative nature and the landlord should have a husky and rough voice.

Module Mentor Advice

Session Review

After meeting with my supervisor Isiah Ferguson once more yesterday afternoon. He expressed how I should keep my script and story simple and short to no more than five minutes or less. The reason for this was due to many people in today's society not willing to invest in a story for long periods of time especially when there is an expansive source of other people creating other similar content.

In addition, he also advised that I sketch most of the illustrations for the audio story on Photoshop using a graphics tablet simply due to the fact that erasing any mistakes can be drawn and edited faster on a computer rather than hand sketching each frame and then scanning those frames to the computer.

In conclusion, I personally agreed with many of Isiah's advice and he seems to work in a similar fashion to myself and I am pleased he has advised me in a straightforward and truthful manner. So next week Tuesday I will head back into the sound design studio with Thomas Baxter and I will create three audio samples for the protagonist, landlord and shadow characters in order for Isiah to have a feel for each character's tone of voice and quality.

Foley Project: Script and Story Preparation

Session Review

Similar to my independent study and other projects for my third university year. I will conserve the amount of production logs to key points during the project's development only compared to my exhaustive past journals. Furthermore, I primarily plan to create another sound design story similar to my noir piece from the second year however combine it with a motion comic or animatic since I personally believe creating a visual story to go along with the audio wil be an excellent progression since I enjoyed the "Brainiac Jack" animatic from year one and wanted to create both another animatic and audio piece again,

With that out of the way, I have begun to craft the script for this sound piece over the summer holiday as I also started the work for independent study. In particular, I took influence from films such as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. In addition to supernatural elements from the World of Darkness role-playing game series since i have also found the way they crafted and represented the supernatural in a subtle and believable manner was very well created.

Furthermore, as I completed a draft script worthy enough to start recording, I thought about the animatic and compared to the "Brainiac Jack" project. I wanted to attempt to make use of what I learned about cinematography in the second year in order to make key scenes have more of an impact visually.
