TOTN: Editing & Recording Final Session

Session Notes

With the deadline on the festive horizon, I have taken careful time to record additional foley sounds. In particular, I have been recording a lot of ambient background sounds such as television and radio playing in the background. Furthermore, with a substantial amount of background noises playing in the sound piece it should provide an excellent atmospheric tone serving to better illustrate the actions in my story mentally to the viewer.

Moreover, I personally a drastic difference in my sound pieces storytelling quality. The moment I included atmospheric recordings such as traffic when Dillon walks out of his apartment and footsteps in several parts of the track to illustrate a character travelling.

Though most of these foley readings contained allot of static background interference or were simply to loud. So I made a lot of use of my new favourite tools the hard-line limiter and the cut and paste to re-engineer certain sounds such as the landlord knocking heavily three times on the tenant's door (figure a/b)

However, I am still creating my hand-drawn frames with pencil and paper. Since I wish to create an improved animatic from my first attempt with Brainiac Jack and have a wonderful animatic piece to demonstrate my growing knowledge of camera angles as I draw each frame in the animatic to better convey the emotions and mindset of characters.

Isiah Ferguson Review of Soundpiece

Session Notes

During this session, I presented most of the current production of my sound piece to my academic mentor Isiah Ferguson. As always Isiah's opinions and professional advice were gladly accepted as he expressed that  I must rearrange the order of dialogue that played towards the final at since main character Dillon and the Landlords lines previously switched back and forth which after reviewing tt personally was confusing for the narrative.

Moreover, he also commented that the addition of more intricate foley sounds to paint a picture for a scene. Also encouraging me to continue listening to the world around and apply my audio observations into my sound pieces, which would serve to produce a richer story to hear. Use a sound bridge to make the transition between different scenes or locations.

Absorbing the conversation with Isiah, I began to edit my sound waves and increase some lines that were quiet such as my recorded dialogue for the landlord and increase the wave height using the hardline limiter. to a level of twenty. (figure a)

Furthermore, additional ambient sounds such as m traffic walking down the stairs recording were louder than the dialogue. So once more my favourite tol the hard limiter was reduced to -20 made the sound quiet enough for the dialogue to be heard clearly. (figure b)

TOTN: Editing & Recording Session 8

Session Notes

I finally moved and sliced my audio dialogue for the landlord and the narrative for my audio story is beginning to take shape. However, my recordings for the landlord character are merely a place filler since I am currently convinced may provide an authentic voice for Mr Donato since S. Williams is the right age for an older man. Though,, should recording S. Williams lines at the shop rove difficult with background interference or he is unavailable I will revert back to my own recorded lines for the landlord character.

Furthermore taking the portable Tascam recorder to a local shop in Worcester I managed to make my voice actor S. Williams record some dialogue for the landlord Mr Donato After adding S. Williams take on the landlord  I noticed thee was allot of background slag such as the traffic outside the shop. So I sought an alternative method besides slicing the recording and I finally discovered the spectral view in Adobe Audition.

Nevertheless, my final attempt voicing Mr Donato was received well by my colleagues which was satisfying. Since asking S.Willams to voice over the character once more at the shop would have been time-wasting and taxing on both of us especially with the festive holiday.
